about

I’ve been passionate about interiors for over thirty years — from decorating my very first home in my twenties to renovating a 16th-century rectory in Somerset. Creating beautiful, thoughtful spaces has always felt instinctive to me. I love making things — writing, photography, cooking, sewing, gardening, crafting — but interiors are the thread that runs through everything I do.

Over the years, I’ve renovated and staged many homes, often working with tight budgets and finding creative ways to make spaces feel special. I also ran a small shop selling antiques and homewares, which deepened my love of sourcing characterful, one-of-a-kind pieces. I’m often told I have a sharp eye for detail and a knack for spotting hidden potential.

Design runs in my family. My grandmother kept an immaculate home that, looking back, revealed a natural designer’s eye. My wider family were practical, resourceful makers. But my greatest influence has always been my mother, whose love of INTERIOR decorating, AND MAKING HOME, STILL INSPIRES ME.

Through studying design and years of hands-on experience, I’ve developed a personal style that embraces layered textures, an earthy palette and a timeless, lived-in feel. I’m especially passionate about rescuing furniture and giving it a second life — creating homes that are not only beautiful, but considered and sustainable.

I love solving design challenges, editing spaces and helping people live well with less — choosing pieces that truly matter. If I had another career, I’d be a set designer, blending theatre and storytelling to shape environments. In many ways, that’s what I try to bring to every home: a sense of narrative, personality and belonging.

Hi, I’m Helen — an interior stylist, designer & founder of House of Scrase.
